Chip in acrylic -- an ethical question

What, pray tell, is the difference, ethically, between removing a chip (successfully) from an acrylic block or toilet seat and removing a cancellation mark hot stamped on a chip.

It appears to me that everyone seems to feel that if a chip could be removed from an acrylic block, it would be fine and dandy. I would think that encasing a chip in acrylic is another form of cancellation. Obviously the casino does not intend for the chip to be put back in play.

Seems like hypocrisy is running rampant. Has anyone said that even if a chip could be removed, it would be wrong to do so?
