I think you're on the right road. We as Americans have gotten ourselves inot one serious situation. Americans have become carb-a-holics, and the amount of food we consume is just plain crazy.

Go to a restaraunt, and chances are they'll bring you a dinner with enough food on the plate that would feed a family of four in most countries.

One thing Americans have lost touch with is the basic principles of math and diet. It's simple. If you consume more calories then you burn in a day, you're going to gain wieght. To lose pounds, you need to do the opposite. You need to burn more calories then you consume. You will increase results by going at the equation from two sides. 1.)Reduce your caloric intake per day, and 2) Increase the number of calories that you burn.

It's not so much how much you eat as it is what you eat. Calories, calories, calories. Sure, the Jarod way is great. Reducing carbs is definately the way to go. But it's important for preople to undersatnd the basic principles of calories. From there, they can get into understanding saturated fats, types of proteins, carbs, etc.

I wish you great success in your journey to a heathy and happy body.

Oh yes...I forgot to mention....excessive wieght is not only an appearance thing, it's VERY unhealthy and potentially deadly in so many ways! But thats another post.
