Do not bid until the very end. Calculate the very most you will pay. When it gets down to 5 minutes before the end, hit the first "place bid" button on the item screen. I do that so there is time to "log in" with my pass word if I haven't done that yet. Also, before leaving the item screen, note the exact second the auction will end. When you get to the confirm bid screen, wait. Watch the computer's clock. Have a clock or watch with a second hand close by. I hit the second "place bid" button about 10 seconds before the end of the auction. It works 8 of 10 times unless you have just been honestly outbid.
