The Chip Board Archive 12

Hey Banjo

I guess we disagree.

Every poster out here knows that any chip with a closing date on it is junk, so why keep beating it to death to the same people .. ?? If anyone outside this board is so stupid as to think that any chip with a CLOSING date on it could have possibly been a "real" chip, then they should be left to their own devices without the intervention of do-gooders that is none of their business .........

Every poster and reader does not know, what you assume they know.

Yes some people are stupid, I'm one of them. I bought a Casino de Isthmus (Paulson fantasy) at a coin show for $3 or $4, before I knew I could have picked up the same chip from the Paulson store for 65c. It sure looked like a real chip, doesn;t have opening and closing dates on it...

The people you call do-gooders are just about everyone in the club. The same people that will help with an Unidentified chip. Announce a new find. Answer your questions and mine, instead of holding back information.

Part of sharing information is also preventing fraud before it happens. Part of being a club that cares is watching out for the hobby as a whole, to attempt to keep problems of fakes and counterfeits, to a minimum.

Do-Gooders help you and me and people we don't even know, who may just read the BB and be learning about chip collecting. If the information shows up enough (since you admit you don't read through the archives, why should they?) it needs to appear here, over and over so anyone new, will see that any chip with closing dates on it, is a fake.

It's called education, and it doesn't just stop when I know something, it's an effort to keep teaching new people, new things.

The funny part is now I collect Fantasy chips and pay around $2 each, to get one I don't have. I got the first couple hundred off the shelf at the Paulson store. The next hundred by way of a kind person who did some shopping in AC. Now I buy them for $2... BUT I know they are fakes. I don't have someone calling the "James Bond Movie Props" (which they aren't!) or claiming they are Rare, hard to find chips on eBay and trying to get $35 for a two buck chip.

However, some out here don't seem to know the difference between a true forgery that would genuinely threaten the integrity of our hobby, versus a stupid gift shop or made-up chip with a closing date on it ..... !! That is my point !!

We agree, some people don't know a stupid gift shop chip from a real chip, from a forgery. (see above) We educate full time. vbg Over and over.

I am against truly counterfeit chips just as much as anyone on this board or in this hobby.

We agree once again.
