Hi Alan,

yes, many europian casinos had to change all of there chips in 2002.
The could not use the old (Deutschmark, Franc, Lire ...) chips any longer. The Euro has a higher value.
As far as I know there is no law in Europe what to do with obsolete chips. But normaly they are NOT beeing sold to public.
Some casinos destroyed the chips, some use them in the training rooms.
Other sold the obs. chips to casinos in the eastern part of Europe. (I don't know what they do with this chips. )

I know only of one casino which sold there chips to public. The casino in Arosa, Switzerland (closed) sold all jetons and plaques in an auction.
The winner was an employee.

I asked some casinos in Germany if the would sell there obs. chips, but none of them would do that.
