Re: The full story about the new Harrah's Reno $1
In Response To: New Harrah's Reno $1 ()

There are only two different $1 Bud Jones chips. The chip on the left with the larger $1 is the new chip. The one on the right is the older chip.

The older chip was pulled from play shortly after it was released in 1996 due to "similarities" with other denoms. The chips were not destroyed, they were stored in the vault.

Along about 2003 (maybe 2002, I'm not sure), Harrah's added a poker room. They put the "pulled" $1 chips into play in the poker room. The "similarities" are not a problem at the poker tables. They usually don't mix $1s and $25s on the same table, and the players all have a vested interest in keeping things straight.

In 2004, when they replaced the entire rack again in the main casino, they also needed more $1s for the poker room. They were not "replacing" chips, but adding to them. Therefore, making them distinctly different was not an issue, as it was with the other denoms. They had no intention of using them in the main casino. Harrah's is a high stakes kind of place. One dollar on the craps table at Harrah's is like 25 cents to your basic low roller casino. They use silver for the same reason they use silver at the blackjack tables.

I repeat... there are only two variations. The chip with the larger $1 is the NEW chip.
