"1907-Las Vegas' first telephone installed here at One Fremont Street. The phone number? "Ring '1' please".

1909-Gambling outlawed in Nevada

1925-Fremont Street - destined for fame - paved for the first time.

1927-Hotel installs large outdoor electric sign-a forerunner of the neon light soon to dazzle Fremont Street.

1931-Gambling legalized in Nevada - again.

1935-President Roosevelt dedicates Boulder Dam with motorcade on Fremont Street.

1955-Group of Italian-Americans from San Francisco Bay Area come to Las Vegas to start Golden Gate Casino at this historic site. Original partners include Italo Ghelfi, Robert Picardo, Al Durante, and Dan Fiorito. Italo manages the casino for nearly 40 years, establishing a colorful reputation as a Las Vegas gaming pioneer.

1959-Golden Gate brings shrimp cocktail to Las Vegas at bargain price, starting a Las Vegas tradition. Locals vote it "Best of Las Vegas" year after year.

1964-Hotel expanded. Metal screen facade conceals historical exterior of hotel in favor of "modern" look.

1990-Italo's sons, Craig and Mark, buy out former partners and restore building's historical appearance.

1991-Golden Gate celebrates the sale of its 25 millionth shrimp cocktail, joined by the four Las Vegas mayors whose collective 32 years in office span all 25 million shrimp cocktails.

1995-Fremont Street Experience transforms the world's most famous neon street into an urban theater with landscaped paths, street performers, and a 10-story tall 4 block long "space frame" with dazzng light shows choreographed to booming state-of=the-art sound! 106 rooms/2.1 million lights!"
