"Provisional ball" must be ...

... announced by the player. Rule 27-2. Failure to announce it makes the second ball the "ball in play". As I read your description of what happened on the first hole, you did not announce provisional ball. Therefore, when you played the first ball and picked up the second, you were subject to disqualification under rule 15-3. Assuming this is a "friendly" game and you are not going to be DQ'd, I would score the hole an "8".

one for the original drive
penalty for lost ball
one for second drive
penalty of two for hitting the wrong ball
one for that stroke
two putts

I agree with Bob that you were also DQ'd on the third hole for playing the wrong ball. You passed the first ball and played a shot with the second ball, which makes it the "ball in play" even if you had announced "provisional ball". When you went back and hit the first ball, you were playing the wrong ball and holed it out -- therefore, also subject to DQ under 15-3. Again, assuming a "friendly game" mode, I would score this one a "6":

One for the original drive
penalty for lost ball
one for second drive
penalty of two for hitting the wrong ball
one for that stroke into the hole

To finish out your bizarre front nine:

Fourth hole: A "6":

one for drive
one for second shot into the lateral water hazard
two stroke penalty for removing loose impediment in a hazard (Rule 13-4c)
one for shot onto green
one putt

Sixth hole: Assuming that you once again did not announce "provisional ball", you scored a 4:

one for original drive
penalty for lost ball
one for second drive
one putt

If you did announce "provisional ball" and your drive was on the green short of the hole (that is, you didn't play the second shot from a point past the first ball), you scored an ace!

If you did announce "provisional ball", but drove past the hole and putted back, you're back to a "4" again under rule 27-2b.

Seventh hole: This is an ugly "9":

one for original drive
penalty of 2 for playing another player's ball
additional penalty of 1 once you figured out your ball was actually lost (no provision for "assuming that someone else played it")
one for your shot from the rough
penalty of 2 for violating rule 27-1 (which required you to return to the tee box to play your second ball after the first was lost)
two putts

Eighth hole: As far as I can tell, there is no penalty for the ball moving when the rake was removed, but the ball should have been replaced to its original location in the bunker (Rule 24-1a). However, I see no penalty for failing to do that, either, so would score this a "3".

Ninth hole: Correctly played vbg for a "5".

So, that makes your front nine:

8 -- 3 -- 6 -- 6 -- 5 -- 1 or 4 -- 9 -- 3 -- 5 = 46 or 49

Any way you look at it, it was an exciting nine holes!! rofl
