or anyone else that fancies having a go...

Below is an account of a recent round of golf. All you have to do is work out the TOTAL score for the round:

HOLE 1: I hit my first shot out of bounds. I play another ball from the tee. I hit my second shot onto the green but as I walk further up someone points out that my first ball did not actually finish out of bounds. I hit that ball onto the green and pick the other ball up. I hole out in 2 putts.

HOLE 2: I manage a level par 3.

HOLE 3: I hit my first ball a mile but into dense vegetation. We cant find it. I go back and hit another one. I pass my friends still searching for my first ball and play my second shot. Someone finds my first ball so I go back to play it. I hit it straight into the hole!

HOLE 4: My second shot lands in a lateral water hazard. I decide that I am actually able to play the ball from the hazard. I move a few loose stones etc from around the ball and hit it onto the green. I hole the putt.

HOLE 5: I manage a level par 5

HOLE 6: I hit my tee shot onto the elevated green. The ball hits a tree and ricochets. We cant find it. I go back and play another ball onto the green and hole out with a long putt. As my partner retrieves the ball from the hole he finds my original ball in the hole.

HOLE 7: I hit my first shot into rough to the left of the fairway. I play my second shot out of the rough back onto the fairway but then notice that it is not my ball after all. I inform my playing partners and we go back to look. We cant find my first ball and assume that one of the players coming down the adjoining fairway has played my ball by mistake and I have played his. I play another ball from where we agreed my first ball had landed and this time it goes onto the green. I hole out in 2 putts.

HOLE 8: My second shot lands in a bunker against a rake. I remove the rake and my ball rolls 6 inches. I hole out from the bunker.

HOLE 9: My second shot lands touching a rake that someone has left outside a bunker. As I move the rake my ball rolls some distance downhill. I replace it where I was and chip onto the green. I hole out in 2 putts.

HOLES 10 to 18: Miraculously I only drop 3 strokes on the back nine, completing them in 39 strokes.
