Re: NCR Wireless Internet Horror Story

I've been a Comcast customer for almost 5 years now. I originally had 1 computer wired to the modem, then I upgraded to a Linksys wired network and had 3 desktop pc's connected to the network. Last year I bought a laptop, and then switched the router to a wireless router. The desktop PC's are still wired to the network, but the laptop is wireless. The NIC wireless card to use on desktop to make them wireless goes for about $60.00, it is a lot cheaper to have the PC's wired to the network so I didn't see any reason to go wireless with the desktop.

Laptop's are the way to go, you can move around your house and have access to the net, I even have access on my garage, and in the deck, thank god for the firewall to protect me from intruders. One thing, make sure your router is not in the basement, your access range might be limited, it is better to have it on the main floor. I now have 3 desktop pc's wired and 2 laptop's, there's still 1 more desktop pc to connect, that will make it 4.

Eventually every computer item you buy will be "wireless network capable" There are some Epson printers that already have that feature.

Good luck with the network. It's not that easy to set up, and the $50.00 fee is not that bad, since they will be doing all the work. My first wired network took me half a day to set up all by myself, the main part was passing the cable from the basement to the other rooms in the house. Once I changed my router to go wireless, it was simple. The part where I'm having problems is in networking my printers, but that's another story.

Good luck
