There are 2 categories of fake ivories:

There are real, but inexpensive, plain ivory chips that have been recently carved to look like expensive ivory chips.

Then there is plain old fake ivory. These come in plastic, clay, bone, french ivory and walrus ivory.

Of course if you have an absolute ivory guru to consult (like Travis and I have), that helps.
