The significance of the kicker ...

... can show up unexpectedly, Bill. Here's a hand I lost recently:

I had 77 on the button with no calls to me, so I raised and was called by the big blind.

Flop = KKK giving me a full house, K's over 7's, so I bet all in & got called again!

Turn = K giving both of us four K's.

River = 7 (!!!) so I had four K's and three 7's (of course, the extra two 7's were useless).

I LOST the hand because the big blind had called me with AQ offsuit and he won the pot with the ace kicker. You could lose with a better hand, but this was the best hand I've ever lost with.
