I had misread the original post and had not understood the orientation you were illustrating.

I did not appreciate the process of manufacture of this particular chip and Im sorry it cost you $1 to demonstrate it - valuable information though.

However.......

I have checked my stock again and find that I do have a 50/50 split of coin/medal aligned chips for this issue. A scan is shown in the same format as yours. This is the interesting part. There are 4 noticeable differences between the chips.

1. The top (coin aligned) chip has a center with concentric circles, as do all my coin aligned.
The other chip has a smooth finish.

2. The lettering on the inlay on the smooth chips is punched considerably deeper than on the coin aligned

3. The diamond on the edge of the smooth ones is fractionally smaller.

If this was a Nevada chip it would have a separate listing in TCR. In fact in the absence of any other information I would have said they were 2 completely different issues.
