Tom, for some reason this type of error....

is not all that uncommon. One could argue that Quality Control should pull these out. However, with thousands being made, does it make sense to look at each and every one coming out of the press? What is the consequence to the manufacturer if a chip shows up like that? One or two would be no big deal, 100's on the other hand would.

Some have given to calling these "floor sweepings", meaning bad chips created in the manufacturing process in error or by testing/expermentation and are tossed out with the trash.

Others will say that such examples show up by bored workers at the plant and others will say that it is a deliberate act by worker(s), who then sell them as errors.

But regardless of how they turn up, there are enough of theses to indicate that although each one may be unique to the casino, in the overall, this type of error is not all that uncommon.

Lastly, technology being what it is, for nearly a $1000 apiece, if I was dishonest, I think I could figure out a way to split two chips and re-fuse them as an error chip.

Just my opinion....
