Yes, but those are casino chips, not home play chips. Not much thought of mourning inside a busy casino. Also, by the time black became "standard" for $100 play in a casino (late 50's, early 60's) the color association with death was not as strong.

According to one psychology reference:

BLACK & GRAYS
Formal, mournful, rich, elegant, serious, seriousness, distinctiveness, boldness, sombreness', authority, practicality and a corporate mentality.

Maybe it was the 'corporate mentality' of the new corporate casino owners that sanctioned use of black for what were pretty big bets in the early days.
