or NO LA grin
In Response To: Re: Club Forrest, WI ()

Thanks Gene, I'm about four miles from the place, and although I mentioned different owners, as most people recognize, the real owners never change, they just lease the place. It may have finally sold, but last time I was in there, the "owners" took me for the guided tour, and as far as I could tell the same real oweners still owned the place.

That doesn't mean the estate didn't finally sell the place to someone else, I could check.

Although I've only been chipping awhile, I have asked around about this place, and found no signs that there are any chips, dice, Etc. existing.

Some of the lore about who hung what piece of music on the wall, or the doors and holes from the "house" and the casino may just be fabrication.

I chased some tunnels from the underground railroad (at least that was the rumor) in Whitewater WI for close to two years. Best I could find was rumors and FOAFs who saw something. Dug around basements, under fireplaces and got banned from one place because the owner was afraid I would find something. grin

Club Forest was probably an old roadhouse. It's on the route of the old military gighway from Milwaukee to Green Bay WI. It was a speakeasy and probably a "house" that provided services. So gambling would fit.

As for the tunnels and the claim that the Govt. sealed them "who knows what's sealed inside" and some of the other stuff, it's unsubstantiated.

Oh did I mention that a couple of owners ago, the place also became haunted. It wasn't haunted as Club Forest or O'Briens Roadhouse, but sometime in the 90's it was... vbg

Sorry but the archaeology background pops in there, now and then and that means evidence over hearsay.

No chips, dice or anything locally either. I may have to dig deeper.

On an aside, I wonder about the mobster hangouts of the North woods. Didn't those guys play poker or maybe run some illegal games?
