The Chip Board Archive 10

I agree with the issues, but

For pure selfish reasons, I'd love to have a database version so I could find all $1 chips and print my personal checklist. grin

As for stealing data, it's true that someone with the time and the motivation could scan and reproduce the entire book, as it is now, using OCR and make the database. PDF is even easier.

Nothing is secure. I saw someone this Summer who had a crack (or whatever it's called) that would defeat the XP protection scheme, so you could continue past the demo date. If someone can beat Microsoft, there's no security system that would prevent copying anything else.

But the ability to search and print from a database would be a valuable tool. The ability to search for a chip or casino name, would be nice. Someone could select their own diesqr mold, or CIC for the search and print a list of all knowns.

I can't believe someone would take the time to photocopy and steal the guide, thinking of not getting discovered or actually making a profit. How silly. It probably cost as much as just buying one. Unless they stole the copying services from work.

So while I admit that there is no protection, how many people would bother to make copies for re-distribution. How long would it take before someone would turn them in. (not long)

In the end, it's up to the authors, no complaints.

But I still have on my wish list a Nevada $1 only book! (or $1 and under) vbg Sure I'll still buy the "big guide", but since they already have the data and I'm assuming, extract it, I wonder about sales possibilities of a selected volume.

Just what KMW needs, more ways to create more work.

So with all that, keep up the good work, I look forward to #11 no matter what form it comes.
