Re: It depends......
In Response To: Re: It depends...... ()

Plus I've personally seen the foreign chips at a couple of Nevada casinos and they took some horrible old closed casino chips, which were probably not worth 1/2 of face. But since the chip goes in the drop box and the person is gambling, maybe the casino feels it's just a calculated risk.

Gene or someone who knows accounting can set me straight, but the casino doesn't have to worry too much, because they don't go trucking chips from other casinos back around the state. At some point they write them off and destroy them. So it's not a big issue.

If you only have one $25 chip from someplace that's still open, but it's obsolete, you might be able to play it, somewhere else. That's my point...

Like Michael said, new owners, whole racks obsolete, you might find that they don't have to take them back. At least in Nevada you have some rules. Try many of the tribal casinos where a chip is good one day, bad in 60 (or less) and you don't have public notices. In theory some of them could say, "sorry you took that chip home, we voided them last night at Midnight"

NGC has their act together and many times it doesn't only protect the player, but the casino as well.

If someone is trying to pass off a bunch of obsolete junk that was sold in buckets and barrels by the casino, I wouldn't even think of trying it.

If it's a true obsolete, you can probably get more than face from a collector, so why redeem it?
