The reason I disagree with tour understanding of Ms. Graham's comments -- "My interpretation of Larry & Alice's post was that it pointed towards a deterioration in values, kindness and consideration in American society that may be attributed in part to removing religion from (or not allowing it into) areas of our society."
is that the language was clearly linking God's "allowing" 9/11 to occur as being the result of the "deterioration in values, kindness and consideration in American society" if the first part of the comments (about God allowing 9/11) I would agree that your interpretation would be correct.
