Re: Not a slot card but an old membership card

Please feel free to use the scan. According to the letter that came with the card, Ladbrooke also owned the Park Lane Casino located at 24 Hertford St. - that must have become the Colony Club. The letter also offers me free membership in that club and the Park Tower Casino in the Sheraton Park Tower Hotel, 101 Knightsbridge. I suppose that club is gone now as well. I joined the Hertford because they had a craps table and the other casinos I checked at the time did not. The Hertford was a pretty small place - one craps table, two or three blackjack tables and two roulette tables. They were doing quite well the night I was there - a Saudi was playing roulette at a table reserved for him alone. He was using 20 and 50 pound chips to play the numbers as a sort of filler. He would wait until just before the ball dropped and say "Two thousand on the black" and the pit boss would say "You have a bet". While I watched him for about 15 minutes he lost an entire rack of chips - they brought out another - he signed a chit and continued to lose. I figured he lost about 20,000 pounds while I watched. I was impressed.

My son now lives in London so perhaps I'll hang onto the card and try getting into one of the Ladbrooke clubs on my next visit.
