I was working in Madrid in 1978 and got a four day weekend. I decided to put the time to good use and flew to London for the weekend. At the time you had to "join" a club to be able to play in their casino. In fact you had to be a member for 48 hours before you could play. I joined this club down near Grosvenor Square. I played one night and lost my $100 bankroll in about twenty minutes. The table minimums were 2 & 5 pounds - about $4 and $10 at the time. Too bad I didn't save a chip. I assume the club is probably gone by now - I think Ladbrooke bought them out at some point. Do you still have to belong to the clubs to play?
