As for removing the chip from the airtite, you might want to try a temperature change.

Perhaps running the airtite under warm water (place it in a baggie if you are worried about the chip getting wet.

I suspect that the airtite would probably expand a little bit if warmed up,though the chip would expand, it would probably take longer for that to occur.
