effect of eBay on prices

I presented the chart, etc., just for the interest in seeing how eBay has grown. I mentioned the supply/demand/falling-prices thing as an afterthought..... . .... To go further, let me say that eBay has had a great effect on the collectibles market. Really very rare stuff (one-of-a-kinds, etc.) may go up in value with eBay. But eBay makes the supply exceed demand with the run-of-the-mill 50-year old and younger collectibles, and makes many once thought rare items common. Before eBay, someone cleaning out a house or estate would throw away things like poker chips, thinking they were of marginal value. Or they might practically give them away to a picker, who would sell them to a local flea market dealer, and, thus, they would go for little locally...... ............ But with eBay, millions of households become flea market dealers and have fun showing the stuff on eBay. So stuff that might have been thrown away in pre-eBay days, get national exposure. With everyone a dealer, the market price goes down.
