I had something similiar happen to me twice. I had stated in my auctions "I accept payment in the form of a money order only. However I will accept a personal check if you're feedback is 50+ { with no negatives }". On two different occasions the winning bidder tried to pay me with PayPal. I received an e-mail from PayPal that the money would be deposited when I open an account { or something similiar to that }. I had e-mailed the winning bidder back and told them that I do not have a PayPal account and that I had no intention of opening one either. So I basically told them that it was their responsibility to get there money back or stop payment and that I'll be waiting for their money order/check. Hope this kind of helped you out.
