The post office will NOT cover anything that isn't insured. UPS does cover losses up to $100, if properly packaged (if their rules havent' changed).

If you want to be sure, and you are the buyer, ASK the seller if he/she will insure the package. On ebay, you'll probably get a "yes, add $x.xx to your payment". On the chipboard, you'll probably get a "yes, I'll take care of it" or a "I'll replace it if it doesn't arrive."

Unfortunately, the "court of public opinion" doesn't matter at all if you sent payment and didn't receive the item, and it wasn't insured. At that point, the seller holds all the cards (and the money).
