THe neighborhood around the Start can get funky, but the Strip itself, as long as you head South, is still the strip. I would have no qualms about walking from the Strat to the Sahara or Circus, or having my mother make that walk (since some people think i look kinda scary myslf). The only problem would be venturing North (to the World Famous O.G.) on the strip, or off the strip itself. I would not recommend that for tourists. While I'm sure some wonderful people live there, and I know for a fact there are some great neighborhoods tucked away in that general area, the overall experience would not be tourist firendly.
