Copying Chip Scans

Several times I have read on this board that members think copying chip scans is somehow "stealing" intellectual property. I do not see it this way at all. I copy scans of chip I bid on ebay for visual reference when I get them. I also copy chip scans of chips I plan to buy or trade for reference. I even use them to fill in the emty spaces in my chip binders so I will know what I need. In my opinion a picture of a chip belongs to no one, it falls into the public domain catagory. I will also bet that a lot of members do the same as I do. So the question is, why is this considered unethical?????
