I've heard similar things....

Where there was a compatability problem with RW cd's. I also had the same thing happen at my office as we used to use RW Cd's..which we no longer use. For one thing quite often they wouldnt be able to be read on another drive and the other thing was that the price is so cheap for regular CD-R's.

You may try seeing if another computer can read them and if so, have them copied onto a regular CD-R. Another otion is to add your ther drive back in addition to your new drive and use it just when you need it as a reader.

If you dont have anybody to check to see if they can read the cd's, you can always send them to me. I can try it and it I can access the files/pictures, I can copy them onto a regular CD_R for you.
