Re: I suppose, technically, that...

you are correct when you say: "As long as David does not deceive anyone about his repaired chips, he...has not "harmed" the hobby in any way. Those who are using his services to have chips repaired for their own use...are not "harming" the hobby. It is only when such chips are sold without disclosure of their repaired nature that any harm occurs."

I guess the hobby really isn't being harmed....it's the perceived monetary value of some of the chips in the hobby, it's the peace of mind of some of the collectors in the hobby, and it's the reputations of other people in the hobby that are being harmed. The hobby is fine.

If I were taking this into a courtroom, I'd do a bunch of research to compare the prices that various brass core chips brought 2 years ago vs. the prices the same chips bring now....I'd go into the archives and link some of the posts where Katie is expressing frustration because she can't get any answers to her questions on the brass core issue.....I'd link to posts where chippers are explaining why their name was on a list released by the rat.

After posting those figures and links, my closing argument would be: "And all this was brought about by the existance of chips that were repaired or created by David Whalen, and possibly other un-named persons engaged in similar activities. The mere existance of these repaired, restored, fake chips brings into question the legitimacy of every brass core chip that exists."

You want to tell me again that David's activities haven't harmed the hobby? How about the prices? Or the people?

I'm done.
