Persistant rumors are that the F-body will be reintroduced in a few years, but most likely only as the Camaro.
Here's an excerpt from an article on the subject:
Burned Out from Automobile Magazine by Michael Jordan
The Pontiac Firebird is killed and thirty-five years of street cred go up in smoke.
The news has finally come down, and it’s bad. The Pontiac Firebird and the Chevrolet Camaro have been officially discontinued after 2002. There’s talk about reviving the Camaro nameplate within the next three years, but not much had been done at General Motors about the five different schemes for a new car. So, after thirty-five years and more than six million cars, the GM F-body has been tossed onto the dust heap of history.
