You call that a personal attack?

Jim- my attack was not on you, but on what sounded to me like a closed-minded attack on music. I admit I did make an assumption, which is that you hadn't ever given Moby's "Play" a good listen. If that assumption is incorrect, I will gladly retract everything and offer you an apology. (I'll still take issue with your opinion, but on other grounds). If not, i stand by what i said. And trust me, there ain't no booze talking here.

Honestly, I'm sorry if you see it as a personal attack. I saw it as a heated debate, which you provoked. Sure, you were attacking an album, and I was attacking your willingness to describe a record it appears you aren't terribly familiar with as a desecration. Come on, "desecration" is a harsh term. You weren't exactly being Mr Kidd Gloves. I say a record is brilliant, and you call it a desecration. Tell me you weren't trying to pick a fight. And to make matters worse, you attacked it on an obscure principle that made it appear to me that you hadn't even heard the album.

Actually, even if you had heard it, your view represents one that I find horribly offensinve. I make my living in the music field, and every year more and more people my age tune out anything that's too new for them to try to understand. It both saddens and offends me. I'm equally saddened when young people are unwilling to realize that great music existed decades ago. But I at least have hope that they'll grow out of that closed-mindedness. People who just won't open their ears to new things are unlikely to change.

But allow me ask simply -- have you heard Moby's "Play" album in its entirity? Or did you call it a desecration because you just don't like the idea of a reinterpretaion of folk songs by an electronic artist? If you admit it's the latter, than I really don't think it's out of line to say you were being closed minded.

As for my sobriety -- 4 beers and 2 shots over 6 hours at the Hard Rock, given my sadly overweight state, would still leave me legal to drive home.

I've been ivolved in far more heated debates on this and other boards, and most people seemed to enjoy them. Sorry if I stepped over a line.
