For quite some time now I've posted here (and been bashed about it) my utter disgust with some casinos (Vegas) and their release/mintage policy. I see now that the 'disease' has hit the East Coast with the $25 Marina issue. I am, however, pleased to see all the posts that are starting to agree with my position on this in that:
A) It's bad for the hobby.
B) More collectors will leave the hobby due to this then remain.
C) The Club needs to take a stand on this.
Now to get back on topic..........
A few years back, there were discussions as to WHY casinos issue LE chips. The answers usually pointed to the fact that they were marketing tools used to get customers into their casinos. Once there, they would maybe play for awhile and take home an LE as a souvenir then, return for the next release and hopefully do the same thing.
At the time, that made alot of sense. My question here is....just taking the new "bad boy" as an example, what good does a release of only 100 chips of ANY denomination do for ANY casino especially ones the size of the AC casinos or the larger Vegas 'strip' casinos???
I can't think of any!! The only 'happy' people in this are the ones that get them for their collections at 'face' plus a few extras they can sell for HUGE profits on the secondary market! That's business.......supply and demand and I fully understand the concept and have no problems with it but why the casinos would do this if there are NO positives for them is something I to this day cannot understand. It's BS if someone answers that the casinos do not want to be 'stuck' with the LE's in their racks when they know full well that 200 or 300 or maybe more will 'disappear' from their racks. Besides, using AC as an example, the issuing casino will ALWAYS have liability on the chips as they cannot issue redemption notices as their Nevada counterparts can so in AC, they're NEVER worthless!!
If someone can explain it to me......I'm all ears!
