I use three ring binders as well. I always leave a full blank holder page between a lot of chips. But, I go to my local Mail Boxes Etc. and shoot a page of my new acquires, cut them and tape them into a separate binder with what in effect becomes a photographic collection of my chips.
It's a little time consuming but when we go (my wife and I) to the convention we will only have to carry the photo book of our entire (albeit small 400 chips) collection. The photo book then matches perfectly to my actual binders because I place the chips in the exact same location in their actual binders relative to the photo binder
