Hey Brian…

If you bought a nice obsolete Las Vegas chip for 80 bucks and 6 months down the line it was selling for 50 bucks would you “regret it” or feel like you’d been screwed. Well, probably not, although it happens as often as the opposite eventuality. We’ve all overspent for some of the chips in our collection by that yardstick.

Now, if you bought a chip for $2,000 and six months later it was selling for $250 would you “regret it” or feel like you’d been screwed… or at least made a really bad decision. You’re damn right you would!!! You’d be thinking about what you could have bought with the $1,750 that you overspent. This hasn’t happened to most of us… although there have been finds over the years that have obliterated value in lots of collections.

I think this is what Randy is talking about. That’s how you’d get “screwed down the line”… although you’d only be screwing yourself in this scenario. The phrase “only fools rush in” is counterbalanced sometimes with “the early bird catches the worm”. I don’t think the second one, though, will ever apply to limited edition chips.
