Test for non-original brass core chip

The acetone test can be done just as you describe, Pete. The injection molded plastic becomes tacky and dries again. Do it on the edge of the chip between the projections of the core. If you touch it with your finger you leave a fingerprint, so touch it with something smooth and flat or use rubber gloves.

On the non-original epoxy chips, the solvent immediately disappears into the plastic and it doesn't become soft.
