Re: Palms CCGTCC Convention Chips

I am not sure of the technical definition of a Jeton but as I understand it, it is a European style chip. It might simply be that We call them chips but they call them Jetons. Is it French(?) maybe?

Anyways they are somewhat transparant, a little larger than the 39mm chips we have and often have metal designs embedded in them. In the US, they are the chips that were used on the French(?) Roulette tables that have been tried in LV. I recall hearing that the tables were tried at MGM and again at Paris, when they first opened. In my compilation below(upper left) are the $5 and the $10 Jetons that were put out by Paris. They came in different denominations that were different colors. $5 was Ruby Red, $10 was Saphire(?)Blue, $25 Emerald Green(?)w/red white and blue Paris Logo ... The $25 was a gorgeous Jeton but was selling for quite a bit. The $10 was almost more than I could afford in my earliest days of collecting. I got lucky and got mine on eBay for a bit less. I think the $10 cost me about $19 and the $5 cost about $12 at a time when they were running around $30 and $20 respectively. Point here would be to keep your eye out. You might be able to find many chips a bit cheeper when the rush wares off a little. Innitially when Paris first opened these chips were selling for great profits. They settled down a little later and skyrocketed again when it was announced that they were removing the tables. Back to the topic, Each denomination had at least 3 designs that differentiated the different players. Unlike here where each player has a different color and the value varies the Jetons were fixed denominations but the designs varied from player to player. The different designs that I recall were striped (shown in the $10 with Magenta Stripes) and Dots or Tabs (as seen with the Gold tabs on the $5) and plain (No Marking). I would have to look back at the scan of the MGM but they look a little plain. The Paris Jetons were as I described earlier, they were somewhat transparant plastic(?) with a metal gold colored wired design embedded into the chip. Very classy looking.
