The computer should be fine and being a USB scanner it should plug-n-pray. I might suggest that you go into the device manager and uninstall it. It should remove the scanner from the system and may (or may not) remove the drivers as well.

Unplug the scanner from the USB connection, and make sure its still plugged in to power (unless it draws power from the USB port). When you plug it back in, it should see the device for the first time and try to load the drivers.

I guess this is like the hardware version of Microsoft's "reboot and everything will be OK". Make sure you have the newest drivers - worse case download the driver from the manufacturer's site and do an "update driver" from the device manager.

Hate to say but there isn't a lot else you can do. Scanner is probably TWAIN compliant so rather than using the software provided - try the imaging program (Kodak) that comes with Windows.

Open it up and do a File | Select Device. Select the scanner from the list (there will probably only be one). Put something on/in the scanner and select the File | Acquire Image menu item. It will call the driver loaded with your scanner
