Re: Exonumia
In Response To: Re: Exonumia ()

While re-reading Pete's post I noticed a couple of definitions that I missed on.

Chip -- Same as a token but not made out of metal. Designed with specifications and size to be used at table games in a casino. Not usable in automated machines like slots or vp. I am still a little fuzzy on a definitive definition of CHIPS so I would defer to others for a clearer definition.

Gaming Token -- Tokens produced for use in casinos or race tracks or other GAMING ACTIVITIES. Should not be confused with Video or Pinball or Archade GAMES. Gaming is a term that describes gambling. Slot Tokens would be a type of Gaming Tokens and Silver Strikes are one type of Slot Tokens.

As for another post about Silver Strikes, The only ones I have ever seen are $10 and $20. I think I have heard of $40s but never seen one. There may even be other denominations. These are the tokens that are made with a special attractive appearance and encased in a plastic holder. They are produced to entice the player to keep the token and take it as a souvenier or collectable rather than cash it in. However, they do carry a face value and and in most cases can be cashed in at the cage for their specified value. They are a whole different type of token than the standard $1 or so tokens that you will use to actualy play the machine.
