Re: Question For Everyone Pt. 2
In Response To: Question For Everyone Pt. 2 ()

vbg It started with a Joe W. Brown's Horseshoe Club ashtray!! We found one, for 75¢ at a local flea market. We'd made several trips to Vegas, and were interested in the town, but had never heard of Joe W. Brown. Bought the 'tray, came home and looked in every Vegas book we had, but couldn't find any mention of Joe W. Brown. Gave up and forgot about it, then found a postcard of the Horseshoe $1,000,000 and it had Joe W. Brown's name on it!!

Skipping a few steps, I bought the Casino Ashtray book cuz it had the Joe W. Brown/Benny Binion story in it. rofl To justify spending $20 on a book that told the story of a 75¢ ashtray, we started collecting the 'trays. (Also had about a dozen 'trays in a box in the basement from my first trip to Vegas in '82).

Skipping a few more steps, I joined the Club as a way of locating sources for ashtrays!! Of course by that time we'd bought a few chips from the late Bob Matthews. We'd also found a flea market booth that had a bunch of "paper stuff" from Nevada...hotel brochures, show guides, etc., and an ad for ummmm, the Carver House, I think, with Las Vegas first "sepia toned" show (something like that). Anyway, we got interested in the history and the old Vegas stuff. Have very few LE's & Commemoratives, we like house chips and obsoletes better.
