As for buying championships . . .

If I told you at the begininng of this season to go and buy a team that would win a championship and money wasn't tight . . .

would Tino Martinez be your first baseman?
would Jorge Posada be your catcher?
Would Soriano be your second baseman?
would Scott Brosius be your third baseman?
Knoblauch in left?
O'neil in right?
would your middle relief include witasek and Wohlers?

The simple fact of the matter is that while the Yankees may have the highest payroll in baseball it is not because they have bought the best players.

And as any Washington Redskins fan can attest, simply hiring great players can not guarantee a championship.
