I know of that has "special" 800 numbers just to discontinue service. When I did it, their computers were down. I told them to disconnect and they said I had to call back. I said no way. One call was enough!

Well, 9 months later, and many, many, MANY calls later, they finally discontinued my service. Although they billed us each month, we simply disputed the payment with American Express. They never paid and after a while (of me not logging on) AOL figured it out that we no longer wanted their service.

BTW-If you go back into the archives, search for horror stories or AOL, you will discover alot of this type of stuff.
