Civil libertarians are generally NOT liberals (and most libertarians have little or no use for the typical liberal agenda).

Personal freedom is THE underlying principle upon which everything else in this country is based. We should give up that freedom grudgingly, even in times of war. And especially when most of what we are now being asked to give up will NOT serve the intended purpose of improving our security.

Many people in positions of authority are over-reacting (as often happens at times like these). There are additional security measures which can and should be taken, but we must recognize that we cannot sanitize the world, risk (even of death) is part of our lives and cannot be entirely eliminated, and we have to maintain a reasonable balance in our approach to this problem (balance which may come with time but is lacking at the moment).
