I don't think PVC would be sturdy enough. You might look at a short antenna mast instead. Cost is usually just over $1 per foot. A two section telescopic mast might be something you could use. Sink a short piece of pipe (or pvc) into the ground just slightly larger that the mast, cut it off at (or just under) ground level then slide the mast in and out when you need it or want to mow over it.

This idea works great for Martin (bird) Houses too. Easy access and can be put away in the winter.
