Ol' No Show (NCR)

My Grandmother loved George Jones. She thought he was the best singer ever. Even with all the trouble he would get in, she thought he could do no wrong.

My first run-in with George was 16 years ago. I was working for ARCO Oil & Gas. We were doing seismic test that ran across his ranch in East Texas. We had permission to be on his land. That did not stop him from running us off. He was shooting a shotgun in the air. It really scared me because he was so drunk. I never told my Grandmother about it.

I have been working at Sam's Town for a little over seven years now. George has played many shows there and with our close proximity to Nashville, he has come to gamble on several occasions. Over the years, I have gotten to know him a little. He really is a remarkable guy. I even told him about our little run-in years before. Of course, he did not remember it. He has apologized several times, even though I tell him there is no need. I think that is why he remembers me.

George played a show at Sam's tonight. It was fantastic. His Manager took me backstage. George sang Happy Birthday to me on stage. All I could think of, was how I would give anything for my Grandmother to see it. I have never been a big fan of country music, but I am a fan of George Jones. grin
