The reason for the worm in Mescal is supposed to be proof that it came from the Agave cactus, because the worm only lives it that plant. However you might notice some Tequila says "pure Agave" on it. The recent trendy habits, towards Tequila drinks, has cased a shortage of all of the above, and higher prices. (by the way, that worm in the bottle is now a moulded rubber composition, not real.)
