Vermillion is a bright red, sometimes called Chinese Red (kind of like the color of the current Desert Inn sign).
Name comes from the latin vermiculus, meaning derived from the small worm, cochineal, which yields the red dye. These worms are often found in the century-plant Agave tequilana which grows near the small town in Mexico where Paul-son makes its chips. It is said that the first vemillion chips were produced when the worm from a bottle of tequila was accidently sloshed into the vat of moist clay being kneaded by the feet of workers in the chip plant. The owners liked the color, and so added it to the color chart.
Alas... with time, the color faded like a Chipco on a Florida gambling ship, and today we are left with only a muted Fuschia being found in the sample sets.
