Re: Photographing HologramTokens
In Response To: Re: Contest for a free chip! ()

In reading all of the posts for this thread they brought back a few detailed memories of how I got my results. There are three things that went into my process.

1.) As Andy said in his post you do have to rotate the chip to get the best image. It seems as though the holograms may be polarized in that they only show when the light comes from certain angles. I took my picture outdoors with the sun over my shoulder and above. It was probably about mid afternoon. As you can see that was good for the chip to be at a 12o'clock rotation.

2.) As you tilt the token forward and back you will start to see the image lift off the token. You get the most detail and some of the other colors will become more noticeable.

3.) Type of light is important in that it will determine which colors will come out of the image. I found that Incandescant light brought out oranges and yellows, Florescants brought out more reds, pinks and greens and Daylight brought out a more pleasing blend of blues, bright greens, yellows and reds. The camera did not pick up alot of the colors but they were more visable to the eye. You can see in the attached pictures the yellows and greens that were in the rose and the reds in the cherub.

I was fortunate that I did find a dealer who had a July 4th Token left for sale. I sent my payment today and look forward to receiving it so that I can get a good picture of it too.
