New Cards - No Cards!
In Response To: TRIP REPORT: Too Many Miles! ()

As I planned this trip, I set up my route, figured the miles per day, and made reservations for the two nights on the road. Figuring on my stop Friday night, I noticed in the American Casino Guide that the entry for Ojibwa Casino Resort in Baraga, MI mentioned discounts for "Player's Club Members." I thought this meant they had put in a system, but it turned out that it was just a laminated discount card, shown here. When I got to Chip-In, I really wanted to finally get a card in my name. When I was there in January of '99, I was told at the booth that the computer was down and they could not make up new cards that weekend. This trip, I get there and I am given two white cards with a magnetic strip on the back and my name and number on the front. They were out of cards and were issuing these until they get more in. I will have to get up there again this summer and see if they get more cards in and if there is any change. At Lac Vieux Desert in Watersmeet, MI, I was pleasently surprised Saturday morning to find they have put in a system and are now issuing cards. On the other hand, when I was at Fond-Du-Luth (in Duluth) and Black Bear (just south of Duluth in Carlton, MN) in January of '99 both places had boxes on all or most of the machines, but said they would be issuing cards in the near future. I walked into Fond-Du-Luth from the parking structure, and as I went through the place I was looking for abandoned cards, but saw none. Then I happened to notice not one of the players I went past (and it was sort of crowded) had a card in their box. Well, sixteen months later, they still are saying the cards are coming soon. Wow!.
