In 1976 I mailed my uncle a check for $950.00 as payment for some building materials I had purchased on his wholesale account. After about 10 days the check, which only had 18 miles to travel, had not arrived, so I did a stop payment at the bank and hand delivered a new check. The original check, now some 24 years late has NEVER surfaced. But we're still patiently waiting, as these things happen. Admittedly, we are a little curious. How many things can happen to an envelope during an 18 mile truck ride?
