Jim Gillette - Rembered

I first meet Jim at one of the Conventions at the Alladin in 1994 or 1995. He stopped at my table and gave me a couple of his brochures on Las Vegas Casinos and we talked about chips and Las Vegas. I met and traded and bought many, many chips from Jim over the years. He always had crazy off the wall unidentified and illegal chips that he knew I liked. Every time I saw him I would say "Jim, what kind of crazy stuff do you have for me?" and he would say "I've got a couple of things you might like." and he would pull out a bag or a small box or a tube full of chips I had never seen before. I remember meeting Jim at a Carl Jr's some where around Boulder Highway on November 16,1996 (I know the exact date from the records I keep on chip trades and purchases)to see some chips he had found for me. Jim had 200 - 300 chips with him and by the time we finished dealing I had 50 or 60 new chips for my collection including the now famous (at least to illegal collectors) Riviera roulette chip from Fort Lee, NJ along with piles of other neat chips.
I had a non chip collecting friend with me that night and as I drooled over and lusted for the chips Jim had brought for me to look at, they began a conversation, nothing in particular just pasting the time as I looked thru the chips. My friend was so impressed with Jim's quiet but friendly demeanor, that ever time I see him he asks "How's that guy we meet at the Hamburger joint in Vegas, he was really a nice guy." Imagine how people that really got to know Jim feel about him if he was able to make such an impression on a total stranger and non chip collector in a matter of a few minutes. Jim, you will be missed but not forgotten because every time I look at one of the chips I got from you I will fondly remember your kind and caring ways.
